Elf Arrival Ideas: 10 Easy Ways to Welcome Your Elf Back

The morning the elf comes back is the one the children remember. It doesn't need to take all night to set up. Here are ten elf arrival ideas that take minutes, look brilliant and can be ready before you go to bed.

When do elves arrive?

Every family does it differently. Lots of elves come back in the last week of November, and many arrive on 1 December. Most fly home to the North Pole on Christmas Eve. Pick the date that suits you and stick to it each year, because the children will remember.

10 elf arrival ideas

1. A special delivery box with their names on it

Nothing says "the elf is back" like a parcel from the North Pole addressed to your children. Our personalised elf arrival box has their names printed on the label, and your elf's head pops out of the top. Leave it on the doorstep, ring the bell and let them find it.

2. An I'm Back! letter

A short letter from your elf sets the rules for the month: no touching, be kind, and the elf reports back to Santa every night. You can add an I'm Here! or I'm Back! letter to the arrival box, or choose an engraved wooden elf arrival postcard to keep.

3. A luggage tag round the elf's neck

A little wooden arrival tag with your child's name and the elf's name makes the elf look like it has travelled a long way. It works well when you want something small and quick.

4. A North Pole breakfast

Lay the table the night before with the elf sitting in the middle. Pancakes, hot chocolate, red napkins and a sprinkle of icing sugar "snow" are plenty.

5. Snowy footprints from the door

Dust flour or icing sugar around a doll's shoe to make tiny footprints from the front door or the fireplace to wherever the elf is hiding.

6. Balloons in the doorway

Tape a few red and white balloons across a bedroom doorway with the elf sitting on top. It takes five minutes and gets a huge reaction.

7. A parachute landing

Tie a paper napkin to your elf with thread and hang it from a light fitting or the bannister, as if it has just dropped in.

8. Stuck in the Christmas tree

If the tree is already up, tuck the elf in near the top with a note saying "Missed the landing!"

9. A baby elf surprise

If your elf has been before, bring something new this year. A personalised baby elf cot with a baby elf tucked in is a lovely surprise for arrival morning or Christmas Eve.

10. A box you bring out every year

If you would like to start a tradition, an engraved wooden elf arrival box with your family name can come down from the loft each December.

When to order

We make everything to order in Bognor Regis and post it within 1 to 2 working days by Royal Mail, so order as early as you can. For a 1 December arrival, order by Friday 20 November.

Will it fit our elf?

Our arrival boxes are sized for the 30cm (12 inch) elves most families have, and the elves we include fit perfectly. If you are using your own elf, measure it before you order.
